In California, another significant legal blow was dealt to the federal government's immigration enforcement practices. District Judge Jennifer Thurston ruled that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents cannot engage suspected illegal migrants without a warrant or a substantial reason to believe that the individuals are flight risks. This ruling stems from the "Operation Return to Sender," which took place in January, during which several people allegedly entered the U.S. unlawfully and were arrested by border agents.
