The theory posited is straightforward: China’s infrastructure, built largely from concrete and rebar, is crumbling at an alarming rate. Reports and personal observations indicate that many of these structures were constructed with poor-quality materials, such as sea sand, which contains salt that accelerates the corrosion of the rebar inside concrete. This has led to a concerning phenomenon—newly built buildings, bridges, and homes are experiencing structural failures at a rapid pace, notably more than those constructed several decades prior.
