Part 4/9:

A recently collapsed bridge in Beijing, known as the Cha River Bridge, illustrates this crisis well. Built in 1999, it underwent renovations in 2007 and received reinforcement as recently as 2015. Yet, within just a few years of this last upgrade, the bridge suffered a catastrophic failure after cables caught fire, leading to a significant section collapsing. Although there were apparent safety measures in place, the very fact that a bridge could fail after such recent renovations raises serious concerns about the initial construction quality.
