U.S. carriers developed a network architecture designed to distribute international traffic across various hubs. This multihub strategy significantly reduced the likelihood of sufficient passenger volumes on single routes to justify the A380’s size. For airlines with concentrated operations in specific cities, such as Continental at Newark and Houston or US Airways in Philadelphia and Charlotte, the A380 offered limited operational viability.
