In a significant shift, the Colorado Rockies recently parted ways with manager Bud Black. Managing the team in Denver for nine years, Black was a respected figure in baseball, but the team’s ongoing struggles evidenced by a terrifying 6–33 start suggested that changes were necessary.
The Rockies have shown a tendency to exist in a "parallel universe," differentiating themselves from other franchises without delivering successful results. Their fan attendance at Coors Field, despite these poor records, seemingly allowed ownership to remain insulated from the need for organizational overhaul.
