On June 25, 1876, Custer caught sight of Sitting Bull's camp while riding high on the hills morved by victorious spirits. Ignoring the overwhelming odds, he mistakenly deemed the moment ripe for battle. His exclamation, "Hurrah, boys, we've got them," signaled the onset of a disastrous charge.
As Custer's forces split into multiple companies to attack the encampment from various angles, Major Reno attempted a southern approach while Custer led his troops from the north. What ensued was nothing short of a slaughter.
