At first, Sitting Bull and his warriors were caught off guard, but quickly regrouped under the leadership of extraordinary figures like Crazy Horse. The ferocity of the Lakota response was unmatched, leading to the complete disintegration of Custer’s regiment. The infamous chaos of the battle claimed all of Custer’s men within hours, and they found themselves surrounded and outgunned by a well-coordinated Native force. The anticipated quick victory turned into a desperate struggle for survival.
