In the film's development, Costello's voiceover permeates the storytelling, crafting an intimate connection between the character and the audience. While voiceovers can enrich the viewing experience—much like in the much-lauded Goodfellas—there is an argument to be made that excessive reliance on this device indicates potential weaknesses in the screenplay. Voiceovers, used in moderation, can add depth to a character's internal struggles or motivations; however, when the device becomes overwhelming, it can divert attention from the narrative itself.
