After a remarkable career with the Reds, Rose became a free agent in 1978 which sparked immense recruitment efforts. He signed with the Philadelphia Phillies for a staggering $3.2 million, making him the highest-paid player at that time. Rose contributed to the Phillies' success, leading them to a World Series victory in 1980, marking their first championship in 77 years.
