The widespread success of antibiotics has inadvertently created a selection pressure favoring resistant strains, resulting in an evolutionary arms race that puts us at significant risk. Superbugs are primarily bacteria but also include fungi, viruses, and parasites that resist one or more classes of antimicrobial drugs.
