A Season to Forget
Ultimately, the 1992 season concluded with a dismal 72-90 record, placing the Mets 24 games behind the division leaders. The team’s expensive investments yielded no return, and when the dust settled, they had earned the notorious title as “the worst team that money could buy.”
The subsequent offseason saw even more dysfunction, with management changes leading to instability. The 1993 Mets continued their downward trajectory, finishing the season with a staggering 59-101 record.
