Part 3/9:
Initiatives taken by local leaders, including Mayor Roy Smith, led to the implementation of the "Naples Plan," a community-funded project that modernized local infrastructure without accruing unsustainable debt. Wealthy winter residents played an instrumental role in this revival, funding critical enhancements like parks and mosquito control, which significantly improved the quality of living in the area.
Building Community Spirit
By 1949, Naples reached a modest milestone with nearly 2,000 residents, enough to incorporate as a city. A vital addition to the community was the Naples Community Hospital, established in 1956, marking a notable step toward creating a well-rounded, self-sufficient city capable of meeting the needs of its growing population.
