Part 3/9:
Historical Roots of Mango Cultivation
The mango's journey started over 5,000 years ago in India, eventually making its way across Asia, Africa, and the Americas during trade routes. By the 1860s in Florida, several varieties had been introduced, marking the beginning of a mango legacy. With a staggering 3,600 acres of registered mango farms in 2022, Lee County claimed the lion's share of production, contributing significantly to the local economy through jobs related to harvesting, packaging, and distribution.
