High-ranking officials in the Nazi regime grappled with a collapsing command structure, as conspiracies brewed within Hitler's own ranks. Operation Valkyrie, initially designed to ensure a continuity of command, devolved into an assassination attempt on Hitler, which ultimately failed. The once formidable Nazi establishment began to fracture as Allied forces closing in from multiple fronts rendered Germany's defeat inevitable.
