One of the critical issues addressed was Operation Rantore, the FBI’s initiative to combat the rampant distribution of fentanyl across the United States, primarily tracing the origins of the synthetic drug back to precursor labs in mainland China. Wray emphasized the urgency of the fentanyl crisis, noting that fentanyl kills an American nearly every seven minutes.
In his new role, Wray has prioritized efforts to "choke off" the supply of fentanyl at its source, including sanctioning financial institutions involved in its trafficking. In the first quarter of the year alone, the FBI reported seizing 1,000 kilograms of fentanyl, enough to pose a lethal risk to the entire populations of both the USA and Canada.
