Part 1/10:
The Everglades: A Fragile Ecosystem in Peril
The Everglades, often referred to as a "river of grass," represent a unique and irreplaceable ecosystem nestled in southern Florida. As the words of Marjory Stoneman Douglas declared in her influential 1947 book, The Everglades: River of Grass, these wetlands are unlike any other region on Earth. Douglas, both a celebrated writer and a fierce conservationist, dedicated her life to protecting this extraordinary environment, particularly when Everglades National Park was established the same year her book was published. However, her efforts were just the beginning of an ongoing struggle against threats to this delicate ecosystem.
