Part 7/10:
The construction of U.S. Highway 41, commonly known as Tamiami Trail, completed in 1928, stands as a particularly significant environmental hurdle. By erecting a barrier through essential freshwater conduits, engineers effectively disrupted the natural flow of water, impeding the delicate balance within the Everglades. Unlike the flood control projects that might still allow some flow, Tamiami Trail created a hardened obstruction that drastically changed how water moved through the ecosystem.
