This leads to paradoxical scenarios, like the well-known grandfather paradox. Although general relativity does not overtly negate the possibility of backward time travel, theorists such as Stephen Hawking have posited mechanisms that might inherently prevent such paradoxes, theorizing that quantum phenomena could inhibit the practical realization of time travel.
