In 2023, the primary sources of energy were predominantly fossil fuels. Oil accounted for a staggering 35.6%, closely followed by coal at 29.7%, and natural gas at 26.2%. This means that nearly 91% of global energy demand was sourced from just these three fuels. Renewable sources like hydro, solar, and wind combined contributed a meager 6.7%. Nuclear energy added another 1.8%, leading to a total of only 8.5% from cleaner energy sources, which begs the question: How can we transition to a sustainable, net-zero carbon future?
