In 2018, everything changed. During a showcase in Santo Domingo, De La Cruz was not initially included among the top prospects. However, a Scout noticed his potential while he played, leading to a moment that would alter his life forever. He signed with the Cincinnati Reds for a modest $65,000, a significant milestone that marked the beginning of his professional career.

De La Cruz debuted in the Dominican Summer League in 2019, but his performance left much to be desired. With a modest OPS of 733 and a staggering 45 strikeouts in just 43 games, early signs did not bode well.

The following year, the pandemic halting play gave him time to reflect and train, and he returned in 2021 showcasing a drastically improved player.
