From 1959 to 1962, Kaczynski participated in a psychological study led by Henry Murray that aimed to explore how individuals react to stress. Participants, including Kaczynski, were subjected to intensive sessions where a trained adversary attacked and ridiculed their personal philosophies, monitored through a one-way mirror. This process appeared to be especially harmful, feeding into Kaczynski's feelings of alienation and resentment toward authority.
