At the initial stage, a basic design featuring a disc pair is inefficient, with most of the jet's energy lost. To ameliorate this inefficiency, Tesla encased the disc closer to a shaft within a housing, allowing fluid to enter tangentially. The fluid, entering from a slightly pressurized inlet, is channeled to the center exit. However, at low speeds, this design performs poorly as the viscous forces remain minimal.
