The 19th century marked turbulent times, specifically with the Seminole Wars. On January 15, 1838, the first Battle of the Loxahatchee was fought, leading to significant military actions and a retreat of U.S. forces, followed by reinforcements. Major General Thomas Jessup ultimately petitioned for the relocation of the Seminal tribe to the Everglades, but this petition was denied. Consequently, Fort Jupiter was established, where many Seminoles were imprisoned before their forced relocation to Oklahoma.
