The geographical features surrounding Jupiter have continually evolved. The inlet itself was first mapped in 1671, but significant changes occurred with the construction of the Port St. Lucie Inlet to the north, which altered the hydrodynamic flow of Jupiter’s inlet. Due to these changes, the inlet moved northward by 1,250 feet. The aftermath of World War II saw the inlet closed off in 1942 as a precaution against potential attacks.
