Following the lackluster reception of the 2018 film, a Tomb Raider television series was announced, supposedly tied to the new game continuity. With Amazon acquiring the rights to Tomb Raider, Jennifer Sulki, the then head of Amazon Studios, sought to integrate a feminist perspective into the franchise. This decision led to the hiring of Phoebe Waller-Bridge, known for Fleabag, to develop a new Amazon Prime series. However, many questioned her suitability for a project of this nature.
