The infrastructure supporting the region’s flood control is primarily managed by the flood district, which plays a significant role in redirecting water from storm events. Michelle French from the flood district emphasized that, despite the blue skies that may prevail in some areas, the other side of the valley could be facing imminent water flow issues, stressing the need for residents to remain vigilant and avoid potential danger.
The district operates a comprehensive system that includes drainage structures and 110 detention basins, which collectively account for around 2% of the valley’s stormwater management efforts. This proactive system is vital, especially in light of how quickly conditions can change in response to sudden rainfall.
