During the Civil War, the Jupiter Lighthouse's strategic significance waned due to its remote location. An interesting fact is that while many lighthouses were actively disabled by Confederate forces, the Jupiter Lighthouse remained largely intact, albeit rendered inoperable. The Union Navy, preoccupied with greater threats, could not allocate resources to maintain or protect it. Consequently, while the lens remained, the fuel and lamp were removed, leaving the light dark during this tumultuous period in American history.
