As human encroachment continues, there are increasing concerns about the ecological integrity of the Everglades. Government efforts are in place to purchase and preserve some land for conservation, but in an age of rapid development, it raises the question: does setting aside land for preservation truly safeguard the future of the Everglades?
With rezoning for agriculture being converted to residential developments, the delicate balance between human habitation and wildlife conservation is jeopardized. Instead of thriving ecosystems, residents are confronted with threats of overpopulation and urban sprawl, which jeopardizes native species habitats.
