Historically, boys and men were dominant in the economy and various social structures. However, since the 1970s, there has been a shift away from physical labor towards a service-oriented economy, in which girls and women have made significant strides. Unfortunately, as girls rise, boys have not only failed to keep pace but have slipped backward in some instances. By the 1980s, women made up 50% of college students; today, they represent 60%. This demographic shift has led to boys increasingly checking out of school and the workplace, finding solace instead in an online world saturated with video games.
