Part 3/10:
The Chinese government, under Xi Jinping’s leadership, maintains ambitious growth targets, specifically aiming for 5% GDP growth yearly. However, achieving this target becomes increasingly difficult as the economy matures. To meet these goals, the country has continued to construct roads, bridges, and empty apartment complexes, inflating GDP while overlooking the fundamental demands of the population.
The scale of this construction is staggering: China's cement consumption over two years surpasses that of the entire United States throughout the 20th century. The expansive road network, covering over 4.6 million kilometers, primarily leads to uninhabited spaces. Ghost cities, like Kangbashi in Inner Mongolia, built to support millions, stand mostly vacant.
