For Xi Jinping, the path forward is clear: through continued struggle, China will achieve its “great rejuvenation.” This relentless emphasis on hardship forms the core of Communist ideology—endless effort, sacrifice, and resilience. From his perspective, the suffering of ordinary Chinese is a necessary price for national greatness, and any discontent is a sign that the system needs to be stronger, more disciplined.
However, this approach risks alienating the very people it aims to elevate. If the masses are disillusioned and exhausted, the regime’s narrative of inevitable resurgence may falter. Without addressing the frustrations of ordinary Chinese—those who are working tirelessly but gaining little—the “Chinese Dream” might remain just that: a dream, forever out of reach.
