Despite the progress made since 1994, the full picture remains elusive. The fossil record is sparse, limited by geological and logistical challenges, especially in regions like Ethiopia where most key finds occur. Political instability, terrain difficulties, and natural erosion mean many discoveries remain buried or unfindable.
Scientists continue to seek new fossils—hoping to find ancestors predating Ardipithecus, or better-preserved specimens—that can fill in the gaps. Ancient DNA studies will likely further refine the human family tree, but much remains uncertain.
