This skepticism is rooted in history. Post-1949, after the Communist Party took control of China, they embarked on a systematic effort to eradicate traditional Chinese culture. Classic literature was burned, ancient temples and monasteries were destroyed or repurposed, and cultural practices were whitewashed or replaced altogether. The Cultural Revolution further intensified these efforts, attacking traditional beliefs and replacing them with Communist ideology.
