The game began with the Giants getting off to a decent start. Brandon Crawford extended a 17-game on-base streak with a leadoff double, although it was marred by defensive struggles, especially for catcher Tomas Ramos, who has battled defensive difficulties all year. Mets' leftfielder Nimmo responded by lining a double over Ramos's head, bringing Crawford to third. The Giants threatened with runners on second and third but couldn't capitalize, as Holmes and the Mets' defense managed to limit damage.
