A recurring theme in the cancellation of animated series is merchandise sales. Many beloved shows—ThunderCats, Samurai Jack, Green Lantern, and even newer entries like Thundercats 2011—were canceled primarily because they failed to generate enough toy or merchandise revenue. As studios have become increasingly reliant on toy sales to sustain long-term profitability, shows with limited merchandise appeal tend to get cut.
