This selective concern extends to global conflicts. The same people who ignore or downplay atrocities in Africa and parts of the Middle East are often loud about issues concerning the West or Israel. The conflict in Ukraine, for example, has received extensive Western attention and resources, yet, according to critics, the mass killings and suffering of over a million in that conflict are often forgotten or minimized in international discourse.
