The notion of the United States acquiring Greenland is hardly new. As far back as 1867, there were ongoing discussions and attempts to buy the enormous Arctic island from Denmark. The most recent notable effort was made in the 1970s by Nelson Rockefeller, Vice President under Gerald Ford, who advocated for Greenland's annexation. These efforts stem from Greenland's strategic importance and its potential wealth of natural resources, highlighting a longstanding recognition of its geopolitical value.
