The catalyst for this renewed patriotism erupted last week at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Pro-Palestinian protesters launched an offensive against the American flag, which was flying at half-mast in honor of four Charlotte police officers who were tragically killed in the line of duty. These activists, seemingly indifferent to the local urgency regarding justice for fallen officers and public safety concerns, tore down the American flag to replace it with a Palestinian flag—a provocative act in the midst of national mourning.
