Mainstream publishing houses have come under scrutiny for their near-exclusive focus on woke identities—authors who portray themselves as transgender, Black, female victims, and other marginalized groups. Ironically, despite the heavy marketing and promotional efforts behind these works, they are often failing in the marketplace. For example, a recent purchase of a memoir by transgender actor Elliot Page for $3 million resulted in fewer than 68,000 copies sold. Similarly, the woke saga authored by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sold only around 9,000 copies in its first week in America, marking it as a publishing disaster.
