One of the biggest concerns, Edmans notes, is that people often equate authority with truth. If a piece of information is published in a book or backed by an authority figure, many tend to accept it as rigorous and accurate. However, anybody can publish a book or voice an opinion—does that automatically make it trustworthy? Simply trusting in authority or written sources without scrutiny can lead us astray.
