Neural Pathways and Emotional Recognition
The amygdala communicates with the prefrontal cortex, especially the ventromedial prefrontal cortex and the rostral anterior cingulate, which are involved in decision-making and integrating emotional information. In psychopathy, the poor functioning of the amygdala results in a breakdown in transmitting emotional signals to these higher centers. Consequently, psychopathic individuals tend to make decisions based more on rational rule-based logic rather than emotional or empathetic understanding.
