Part 7/11:
Authorities recovered the weapon used in the incident—a bolt-action Mauser Model 98 chambered in .30-06 caliber. The rifle was wrapped in a dark towel when discovered in a grassy area north of Campus Drive Road, near UVU. The rifle was equipped with a scope, confirming the tactical nature of the weapon.
What made the weapon particularly alarming were the inscriptions engraved on some of the fired casings found alongside it. These engraved messages included phrases like “notices,” “bulges,” and various coded or rhetorical symbols. Unfired casings carried messages such as “Hey, fascist!” and “If you read this, you are gay lmao,” indicating a disturbing blend of hateful language and possible taunting.
