The game began with the Blue Jays quickly falling behind, as five pitches into the contest, they already faced a run against pitcher Cam Schlitler. While Schlitler displayed commendable performance, it was the Yankees' defense and the offensive support that faltered. Toronto's offense was largely silent, managing only a home run from McMahon and a late inning hit by Judge in the ninth, which was too little, too late. The Yankees' inability to produce consistent offensive threats proved costly.
