The Skepticism from the Start
From the moment Bill Bich accepted the head coaching position at UNC Charlotte, skepticism abounded. Many observers, including the author, found it hard to believe someone of his reputation would take such a job. Throughout the summer, the prevailing attitude was, “I’ll believe he’s the coach when I see him on the sideline in the Tarheel gear.” Up until then, it all seemed like a potential disaster waiting to happen, and unfortunately, the worst fears were soon realized. The initial disbelief was justified, as no one expected things to unravel this badly so quickly.
