For example, Black students are suspended at disproportionately higher rates, which disrupts their learning and progression.
Efforts to Improve Discipline and Representation
Reducing suspensions is a cornerstone of the plan. CPS aims to move away from punitive discipline practices that often exclude Black students from classrooms. Instead, the district plans to implement culturally responsive teaching and discipline strategies, which require teacher training and support.
