The project is currently in a passionate hunt for vintage 8mm and super 8mm films—small reels that once served as the primary medium for home videographers before the era of digital recording. These reels contain hours of invaluable footage, much of it shot in the 1930s through the 1970s, capturing everyday moments like community gatherings, parades, graduations, and family celebrations.
Jake Hamilton, reporting from the Logan Center, emphasized the significance of these reels, noting that many families could have forgotten or stored away these films in basements or attics. With an appeal to the community, project coordinators are urging residents to sift through their old collections and contribute these visual histories to help tell a more comprehensive story of life on the South Side.
