The suspect, Tyler Robinson, surrendered voluntarily at the Washington County Sheriff's Office on the evening of September 11, 2025, accompanied by his parents and a family friend. According to Robinson’s mother, she recognized the suspect from images broadcast on news outlets and expressed concern that he resembled her son. She reported that Robinson had become more politically active, leaning pro-LGBT and sympathetic to left-leaning causes, which was a significant change from his previously registered non-partisan affiliation.
