Despite the optimism, analysts and officials acknowledge the immense difficulties ahead. Critical issues such as the future governance of Gaza, disarmament of Hamas fighters, and the reintegration of armed groups remain unresolved. The plan calls for Hamas fighters to surrender their weapons if they wish to remain in Gaza, a demand unlikely to be welcomed by all members of the militant group.
Furthermore, regional tensions are still palpable. Notably, Hamas—a key actor in the conflict—was not invited to the peace talks, nor was Iran, a significant backer of Hamas. Israel’s Prime Minister was also only invited at the last minute, and he ultimately declined participation due to proximity to a major Israeli holiday.
