Extended storage life and reduced costs mean renewable energy sources become even more economical, accelerating the transition away from fossil fuels. When batteries last decades and are cheaper, the economics of renewable energy fundamentally change, potentially rendering coal, natural gas, and even nuclear power less competitive.

Improving Energy Density

Historically, sodium-ion batteries lagged in energy density compared to lithium-ion, mainly due to their heavier weight and lower specific energy. Previously, sodium cells hovered around 120-140 Wh/kg, making them unsuitable for many EV applications where weight and space matter.
