One of the hottest topics is the fate of first baseman Pete Alonso. Brown highlights that the idea of re-signing Alonso for seven years, especially at the current high price points favored by Scott Boris, is unlikely. “Boris loves to start the price rocket high—knowing full well there’s no chance Alonso gets a seven-year deal with the Mets,” Brown states.
He emphasizes that Alonso, who declined a 7-year, $158 million extension back in 2023, won't see such a lengthy pact now. Brown believes Alonso could attract a 5-year deal around $130 million elsewhere, citing Paul Goldschmidt’s similar deal with the Cardinals as a precedent.
